State of Natural Disaster Declared in Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Due to Fires

A state of natural disaster has been declared in the Konjic area of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to raging wildfires. The Operativni centar Civilne zaštite Hercegovačko-neretvanskog kantona (HNK) reported that the situation is alarming, with fires spreading in several directions near the settlements of Kanjina, Živašnica, and Brđani.

International assistance, specifically air support, has been requested to aid in extinguishing the blazes. Firefighters are battling difficult conditions, including inaccessible terrain and high temperatures, which are hampering efforts. The fires have already destroyed several abandoned structures overnight. All available forces are engaged in preventing the further spread of flames towards populated areas.

In addition to the fires in Konjic, the Neum area along the Adriatic coast is also experiencing significant blazes. While one section of the fire near the village of Međugorje was localized late Tuesday afternoon after dangerously approaching homes due to strong winds, another branch continues to burn in difficult terrain towards Gornje Hrasno. This latter fire currently does not threaten houses.

Over the past 24 hours, firefighters have responded to approximately twenty smaller fires in Mostar, Čapljina, Stolac, and Čitluk, in addition to the major incidents in Neum and Konjic.
