Stepfather Arrested in Case of 11-Year-Old Pregnant Victim in Tamaulipas

An 11-year-old girl identified as Nohemí, from Tamaulipas, Mexico, has undergone an abortion after becoming pregnant as a result of sexual abuse. The case came to light recently when she was admitted to the IMSS General Hospital No. 13 in Matamoros.

Medical staff determined she was approximately five months pregnant. She received comprehensive care, including medical, nutritional, psychological, and social work services. The Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office opened an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

Authorities have since issued an arrest warrant for Sirenio "N", Nohemí's stepfather, on charges of aggravated violation. He was considered a primary suspect and had reportedly left his home with his belongings. The arrest warrant has been executed, and he is now in custody.

The abortion procedure was performed in accordance with legal regulations to preserve the minor's life. Following the procedure, Nohemí is reported to be in good health and will remain hospitalized until her recovery is complete. Afterward, DIF Matamoros will ensure her safety and provide protection.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has urged the Ministry of Women to review Nohemí's case. The Ministry of Women has launched a strategy called "Girls and Adolescents Free and Safe" to prevent and address childhood and adolescent pregnancy, sexual violence, early unions, and forced cohabitation.
