Stephen Chow's Go-To Supporting Actor Seen in Wheelchair, Still Toasts Guests

Veteran Hong Kong actor Wong Yat-fei, widely recognized for his supporting roles in Stephen Chow's comedies, has recently been seen using a wheelchair due to persistent leg problems. The 83-year-old actor, who famously portrayed "Master Sing" in "Shaolin Soccer," earning him a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor, has been struggling with bone spurs that have significantly impacted his mobility.

Despite his physical challenges, Wong Yat-fei recently appeared at an event where he was seen standing up to toast guests. This display of resilience, captured in a video of his recent activities, has eased concerns among fans who were worried about his health. While he relies on an electric wheelchair for daily movement, his ability to stand and participate in social interactions suggests his condition is not as severe as some feared.

Wong Yat-fei has been based in Shenzhen in recent years and continues to engage in acting projects and commercial events. However, his health has declined significantly. After quitting smoking in 2009, he experienced substantial weight gain, reportedly around 50 pounds, reaching nearly 200 pounds (approximately 90 kg). This, combined with his ongoing battle with bone spurs, has placed increased strain on his legs, leading to his gradual mobility limitations.

In the past, Wong Yat-fei had a close working relationship with Stephen Chow, but their collaboration reportedly soured. He had previously stated he would not work with Chow again, though he expressed gratitude for Chow's early support, calling him a "genius." Wong Yat-fei's current situation highlights the challenges faced by aging actors navigating health issues while continuing their careers.
