Stockholm tips August 12: Sweden's smallest jazz festival and this year's Culture Festival

Stockholm is buzzing with cultural activity as the city's annual Culture Festival kicks off on August 12th, offering a diverse program of free events across the city center. Running until August 16th, the festival promises five days filled with music, dance, art, food, and engaging activities for residents and visitors alike.

This year's festival boasts a lineup of notable artists, including Agnes, Otto Knows, and Hurula, who are set to perform for enthusiastic crowds. The event aims to showcase a wide range of artistic expressions and cultural experiences, making them accessible to everyone through its free admission policy.

Beyond the main festival, Stockholm is also hosting "Svenska Ord & Toner," which bills itself as the city's smallest jazz festival. Taking place in Vitabergsparken from August 12th to 14th, the festival features performances by artists such as Bo Sundström, Isabella Lundgren, and Viktoria Tolstoy. The intimate setting of the park's garden, with a capacity for around 200 people, offers a unique listening experience.

Additionally, a historical city walk titled "Framstående fruntimmer i 1800-talets Stockholm" (Prominent Women in 19th Century Stockholm) is scheduled for August 12th. Led by guide Åsa Ohlen-Olsson, the tour will explore the lives and stories of notable women from the 19th century, including actresses, seamstresses, and entrepreneurs, starting from Gustav Adolfs torg at 4 PM. The Kulturhuset Stadsteatern is also reviving the award-winning musical "Trollkarlen från Chicago," which explores the influence of neoliberalism and Milton Friedman's economic ideas on politics and policy.
