Stockholm unveils ten new bathing spots after 100 million kronor investment

Stockholm is enhancing its urban waterfront with a significant investment of 100 million Swedish kronor dedicated to new piers and bathing facilities. This initiative has resulted in the inauguration of ten new bathing piers across the city center, providing residents with improved access to the water for recreation and relaxation.

The new additions include kajbalkonger (quay balconies), new piers, saunas, and designated swimming zones. Visitors at the new pier at Söder Mälarstrand expressed enthusiasm for the project. André Petterson, experiencing the new pier for the first time, was impressed, stating, "I just walked by here and got a wow feeling. There really should be more for all Stockholmers, especially now that swimming was banned in Tanto so it's nice to have an alternative." He suggested that more areas along the waterfront could benefit from similar developments.

Helen Engström, who had already taken a dip, praised the investment, calling the pier "very nice" and expressing a desire for more such structures around Stockholm. However, she also pointed out a potential safety concern, noting, "A railing would be needed for safety reasons. In Marievik, they have installed railings along the entire pier."

The new bathing spots are spread across various locations, including Söder Mälarstrand (with piers at kajplats 14, 15, and 26), Norr Mälarstrand, Sjövikskajen, Marieviksbadet, Primusbadet, Eriksdalsbadet, and Hornstullsbastun. The Hornstullsbastun, a floating sauna, is available for booking and costs 150 kronor for 90 minutes. Stockholm city is actively exploring additional locations for future bathing and sauna facilities.
