Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has publicly declared he will not be a candidate in the 2027 governorship election, urging those vying for the position to cease using his administration's perceived failures as a campaign tactic. Instead, he challenged them to articulate their own visions and plans for the state.

I am not the one contesting for governor. The people of Oyo State have given me the opportunity to serve them. Go and tell them what you want to do differently. Stop abusing Seyi Makinde.

Speaking at an event in Ibadan, Makinde appeared to address broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat and other political figures, stating that his focus is on completing his current term. He emphasized that voters should demand accountability from all aspirants, asking what they would do differently to improve upon his administration's achievements and address its shortcomings.

"Stop abusing Seyi Makinde. Abuse Bimbo and his followers. You guys should abuse yourselves. I’m not in the league to contest for governor again," Makinde stated. He added, "Is that the message you are passing around as campaign? I have done my bit."

The governor's comments come amid heightened political maneuvering for the 2027 elections. Oriyomi Hamzat, founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, has declared his intention to run for governor under the Accord Party, adding a new dynamic to the race, particularly given his past relationship with Makinde.
