“Stop Treating America Like a Piggybank”: Trump Threatens to Block Bombardier Jets in US

Donald Trump has threatened to shut Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier out of the US market unless it moves its manufacturing operations onto American soil, sharply escalating trade tensions with Ottawa.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Canada of protectionist policies against US companies and targeted Bombardier, the Montreal-based business jet manufacturer. “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES! Their products aren’t good enough!” he wrote.

Trump claimed that more than half of Bombardier’s revenue comes from the United States and accused the company of relying on American buyers, companies, airports and service providers. He also said Canadian authorities had prevented Gulfstream Aerospace, a US aircraft manufacturer, from operating in Canada.

The remarks came after bilateral trade talks broke down and Washington threatened retaliatory tariffs on key goods. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa remained ready to negotiate a durable agreement, but would protect Canadian workers, families and businesses.

“We are always going to stand up for what’s in the best interest of Canada, Canadian workers, and Canadian families, not look for an easy win, not looking for an announcement, but something that’s durable,” Carney said. He said Canada had suspended negotiations after rejecting terms proposed by Washington and would work to strengthen its domestic economy and expand trade ties with other countries.
