Storms trigger rockfalls, road closures, and concert interruption in central Switzerland

Violent thunderstorms lashed central Switzerland on Tuesday evening, triggering rockfalls and significant disruptions to road and rail transport. The canton of Uri was particularly affected, with a rockslide blocking the lake road between Seedorf and Bolzbach and flooding forcing the closure of the A2 motorway in the same area.

Further complicating travel, a mudslide occurred on the Uri side of the Susten Pass, between Gorezmettlen and the summit. Cantonal police confirmed the mudslide was a result of the intense storm, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. In the canton of Obwald, train services on the IR and S5 lines between Alpnach Dorf and Alpnachstad were halted due to the adverse weather, leaving passengers stranded with an undetermined duration for the disruption.

Meanwhile, in Zurich, the evening's heavy rainfall led to a temporary interruption of the Linkin Park concert at the Letzigrund stadium. After a pause of approximately 50 minutes, the American rock band was able to return to the stage and continue their performance for the awaiting fans.
