Strengthen internal democracy ahead of 2027, group urges political parties

The Christian Conscience Group, a non-denominational civil society organization, has called on Nigerian political stakeholders to prioritize and enhance internal democracy within their parties. This appeal comes as the nation looks toward the 2027 general elections.

We congratulate those who emerged victoriously while urging those who lost to explore internal mechanisms for redress rather than defecting from one party to another.

In a statement jointly signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Akinluyi, and National Secretary, Revd Dr. Kolawole Verrals, the group congratulated aspirants who emerged victorious in ongoing party primaries. Simultaneously, it urged those who lost to utilize internal party mechanisms for resolving grievances instead of switching party affiliations. The group stressed the importance of safeguarding Nigeria's democratic system, particularly after years of uninterrupted civilian rule. Political actors were urged to place the nation's interests above personal ambitions. The Christian Conscience Group also advised the electorate to prepare for the upcoming general elections.

For the upteenth time, we call on the government to adopt unusual approach, think outside the box in tackling insecurity. Nigerians deserve a safer and better Nation than one where bandits continue to ravage communities unchecked.

Addressing the persistent insecurity challenges plaguing the country, the organization implored the Federal Government to move beyond existing measures. It advocated for "unusual approaches" and "thinking outside the box" to combat insecurity, stating that Nigerians deserve a safer nation. While commending the efforts of security and intelligence agencies, the group encouraged them to intensify intelligence gathering and deploy more resources and equipment to apprehend bandits and their collaborators, emphasizing "Enough is enough of these senseless killings."
