Student activists say Pegasus spyware found on phones of two Nis law students

Student activists at the University of Nis say Pegasus spyware has been discovered on the phones of two law students, adding to a growing list of students and associates they say have been targeted in Serbia.

The devices will undergo further forensic analysis, and the activists promised to publish the results once the investigation is complete. They also said they would inform the public about any new findings, including whether the malicious software had been installed on the phones of other students.

In a social media post, the students described the alleged intrusion into their privacy as a sign of weakness by the current regime. “We have nothing to hide. We are not criminals. The more you try to monitor, intimidate, and silence us, the more you show how much you fear young people fighting for justice, truth, and accountability,” they wrote.

The group said it would not stop, remain silent or be intimidated. “We are sending this message: there will be a reckoning, legal, institutional, and political, through the investigation into the responsibility of all those who participated in illegal acts and the abuse of the state apparatus and system against students.”

At a September 4 news conference in Belgrade, student activists said at least 14 fellow students and associates had been targeted by Pegasus, an expensive Israeli spyware tool typically bought by state security services.
