Student group holds 'political education' events for terrorist's writings at Madison public library

A student group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is planning to host a series of events featuring the writings of Bassel al-Araj, a Palestinian figure described by the Jerusalem Post as a deceased terrorist. The events, organized by Students for Justice in Palestine Madison (SJP), are titled "The Praxis of Resistance: Selected Writings of Bassel al-Araj" and are scheduled to occur every Saturday in June at the Central Madison Public Library.

Bassel al-Araj was killed in a gunfight with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 2017 in Ramallah. According to the report, he was allegedly the head of a terrorist cell, involved in planning attacks, and procuring weapons. He had also previously been arrested by the Palestinian Authority for allegedly plotting attacks against Israelis.

An SJP Instagram post promoting the event stated, "This month, we will be reading texts by Bassel al-Araj, a Palestinian revolutionary and writer." The Madison Public Library did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the events being held at their facility.
