Student Injured by Sharp Object Inside Colón Technical Institute; Another Student Apprehended

A student at the Professional and Technical Institute (IPT) in Colón was injured by a sharp object on Wednesday morning following an altercation in one of the school's hallways. The 17-year-old victim was taken to the Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary reports from the National Police indicate that another student from the same institution is allegedly involved in the aggression. The Deputy Director General of the National Police, Francisco Castro, confirmed the apprehension of a student who has been handed over to the relevant authorities as the investigation proceeds.

Castro stated that the police are coordinating with IPT Colón and other schools in the province, emphasizing the permanent presence of their Child and Adolescent Police unit and adjusted schedules to ensure police visibility during school entry times. He reminded the public that police enter educational facilities upon the request of school directors and suggested joint initiatives to prevent future violence.

Due to the incident, classes were suspended for the remainder of the day. Officials from the Judicial Investigation Directorate and the Public Ministry have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event.
