Student takes graduation exams on stretcher after accident in Vietnam

In a remarkable display of determination, a high school student in Vietnam's Dak Lak province took her national graduation exams while lying on a stretcher. Le Huynh Thien Trang, who sustained a pelvic fracture in a traffic accident late last month, was determined not to miss the critical examinations.

On June 11, an ambulance was stationed outside the Hong Duc High School examination center from early morning to transport Trang to a specially arranged private examination room. Inside, she carefully completed her literature exam, lying on the stretcher. Despite her injuries, which prevent her from sitting up independently, Trang was focused on her tests.

Trang's mother, Huynh Thi Ngoc Ly, shared the emotional journey, describing how the ambulance picked them up from home and waited outside the exam room. "After the exam, the ambulance came right to the room to take my child home to rest. Seeing her lying down to take the exam was heartbreaking, but seeing her determination gave the family more motivation," Ly said.

According to reports from Hong Duc High School, Trang is a capable student. The accident occurred on May 30 when she was riding on the back of a friend's electric scooter and collided with a taxi. She was hospitalized with a fractured pubic bone and multiple injuries, requiring constant care and bed rest.

To ensure Trang's right to take the exam, the school reported the situation to the provincial Department of Education and Training, which approved the arrangement for a separate examination room. The room was equipped with a specially designed writing desk positioned at a comfortable height for her to use while lying down. Meanwhile, at another exam site in Buôn Đôn, a male student with a broken foot was carried into his exam room by friends, highlighting a spirit of mutual support among students during this important academic period.
