Students procure vital firefighting gear amid Serbia's blazes

Students have launched a significant initiative to support firefighters battling blazes across Serbia. Through citizen donations, they have acquired substantial amounts of firefighting equipment and supplies, aiming to bolster the efforts of those on the front lines.

The most critical acquisitions include 110 metal brushes for clearing flammable vegetation and fighting fires, alongside 110 firefighting water backpacks. The group also secured 50 helmets, 200 pairs of protective goggles, 300 pairs of gloves (with more arriving soon), and 46 filter and mask sets. Several rented portable refrigerated trucks facilitated the rapid delivery of food and drinks to firefighters, supplementing large quantities of bottled water, sandwiches, and snacks.

This is only the beginning. Significant sums have already been set aside - more gloves, masks, fire-resistant suits, helmets, and even additional backpacks and brushes are currently being actively ordered.

The students are collaborating with local volunteer fire departments and scout teams to ensure all donations are used effectively.

Brave firefighters and volunteers have been dealing with extreme conditions for days. Firefighters and volunteers came to extinguish fires equipped with what they had: a brave heart and the determination to help those in need.

Equipment has been distributed to various locations, including the Deliblato Volunteer Fire Department, crucial in fighting fires in Banat. Other departments in Dubovac, Banatski Karlovac, and the Kraljevo region have also received supplies. Food and water packages, along with backpacks and brushes, were delivered to a local volunteer fire department in Zaječar. Scout detachments in the same region received headlamps and basic materials for their operations, while a scout detachment in Knjaževac was equipped with basic intervention tools.

The students expressed gratitude to the "heroes on the ground," acknowledging that professional and volunteer firefighters have endured extreme conditions for days. They highlighted the firefighters' bravery, noting their use of "old backpacks and motor sprayers, chainsaws, and rarely a brush cutter." The students emphasized their commitment to providing "any support they need," standing behind the firefighters who are "on the front line."
