Students sought recommendations for cheap summer holidays in Croatia, quickly many Croats responded: 'Run away from Makarska!'

A discussion on Reddit has revealed a diverse range of recommendations for affordable summer destinations in Croatia, sparked by a young couple seeking alternatives to crowded tourist hotspots. The 23-year-old students, who had a positive experience in Vodice last year, were considering Makarska but were deterred by stories of extreme crowds.

Their budget of approximately €80 per night for accommodation was shared on the platform, with a clear request for locations that are neither "dead" nor overwhelmingly packed, offering accessible cafes and restaurants without a "person on top of person" feeling. This prompted a flurry of advice from users sharing their firsthand experiences.

Primošten and Rogoznica emerged as popular choices, praised for offering sufficient activities without the intense crowds of Makarska, while maintaining "still bearable" prices. The Zadar region also received strong recommendations, with users highlighting the city's attractions like the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation, alongside numerous nearby beaches and towns such as Biograd and Pakoštane.
