Students, teachers mourn girl killed in Thailand school shooting

Grief hung heavy at a Buddhist temple in Thailand's Nonthaburi province as students, parents, and teachers gathered Sunday to mourn Naphat Chaima, a 12-year-old girl who was among eight victims of a tragic shooting incident.

The violence began Friday when a 14-year-old boy, who had been raised by his grandparents, fatally shot them at their home north of Bangkok. He then proceeded to his school, where he killed six additional individuals, including students and staff, before turning the gun on himself. Authorities confirmed he used his grandfather's handgun in the attacks.

Investigators are diligently working to uncover the motive behind the rampage. Early findings suggest the teenage assailant had a history of engaging with violent content online and had previously brought a BB gun to school, which was confiscated by a teacher. Officials also noted the boy had experienced academic stress and was reportedly bullied by a classmate.

Mourners described Naphat as a bright and active child who loved to dance. Psychologists were present at the temple to offer support to the grieving children and their families. One woman, whose daughter was Naphat's classmate and cheerleading partner, expressed her condolences and voiced concerns about school security, questioning how the shooter managed to bring a firearm onto the premises. Despite the tragedy, she also remarked that such an event felt "beyond anyone's control."
