Stuttgart Chairman Believes Coach Hoeneß Could Lead Champions League Winner or National Team

Alexander Wehrle, the chairman of VfB Stuttgart and supervisory board member at the German Football Association (DFB), expressed high confidence in coach Sebastian Hoeneß's future potential. Wehrle stated that he has "repeatedly said that he is a coach whom I believe could one day work for a Champions League winner." He further added, "Just as I can imagine that he will one day have the opportunity to work as a national coach in his coaching career."

However, Wehrle was quick to temper expectations, noting that "this still has many years to go." He emphasized his satisfaction that Hoeneß is contractually bound to the Bundesliga club until 2028. Since taking over the team in April 2023, the 44-year-old Hoeneß has been credited with valuable work, leading Stuttgart to the DFB-Pokal final last year and again this season, where they lost to Bayern Munich. He has also guided the team to two consecutive Champions League qualifications.

Stuttgart is scheduled to play their next test match against FC Everton on Saturday. Their Bundesliga campaign is set to begin on August 28th with an away game against league champions FC Bayern. Before the league starts, they will also face third-division side Hansa Rostock in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on August 21st. Hoeneß's successful tenure has significantly elevated the club's profile and performance.
