Su Chiao-hui and Shen Po-yang sing “Pink Running Car” together at Taipei taxi union event

New Taipei mayoral candidate Su Chiao-hui and Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang turned a taxi drivers’ union Ghost Festival event into a campaign-stage singalong, performing “Pink Running Car” together.

Su, who attended the event in Taipei, said taxi drivers were the best assistants for helping residents reach their destinations. She said her plans would include taxis in tourism and long-term care policies, allowing them to serve visitors exploring New Taipei’s mountains and coastline and help connect older residents with care resources in their neighborhoods.

She also urged Taipei voters to support Shen and New Taipei voters to support her, saying the two cities should “welcome a new era together.” Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an was also in attendance, and Su acknowledged him from the stage.

Su said she and Shen had long focused on the rights of workers and drivers in the Legislative Yuan. She also referred to a labor support group formed the previous week by more than 100 union organizations, whose leaders appeared to support her campaign.

If elected, she said she would expand labor support by increasing workplace injury condolence payments and subsidies for lawsuits involving labor disputes. She also proposed reviewing labor university courses, expanding varied vocational training and establishing a career mentor system to help workers find jobs or start businesses.

Su said she would work with unions to review existing regulations so they could protect road users while also safeguarding drivers’ rights. Her broader campaign message linked taxi policy with tourism, elder care and cooperation between Taipei and New Taipei.
