Su Chiao-hui Campaign Denies Ties to 'Weiru' Amid Opposition Attacks

The campaign office for Su Chiao-hui, a legislative member and New Taipei City mayoral candidate for the Democratic Progressive Party, has strongly refuted accusations made by the opposition, labeling them as "baseless." The allegations, reportedly originating from the Kuomintang's New Taipei mayoral candidate Hou Yu-ih's camp and the Taiwan People's Party, claimed that Su's sister, Su Chiao-chun, was involved in illicit dealings related to the company "Weiru."

The press conference held this morning by the 'Li Sichuan Taiwan People's Party camp' was a baseless accusation.

Su's campaign spokesperson, Ma Heng-heng Yi-jiang, clarified that Weiru is merely a technology service provider and not a related enterprise to "akaswap." He emphasized that Su Chiao-hui herself holds no shares, investments, or paid positions in Weiru, and that any public bidding projects undertaken by Weiru are unrelated to her sister, Su Chiao-chun. Ma Heng-heng Yi-jiang drew an analogy, stating that a vendor selling goods on Facebook is not necessarily a subsidiary of Meta.

Ma Heng-heng Yi-jiang expressed bewilderment at the opposition's tactics, noting a pattern of attacking Su's family whenever Hou Yu-ih faces significant controversies. He cited examples such as disputes involving Hou's brother's alleged environmental violations, illegal building on farmland, controversies over down payments for luxury homes, and a recently revealed NT$6 million solar art installation in Taipei. The campaign urged the opposition to "study harder" and refrain from making "baseless accusations."

Su Chiao-chun has received multiple accolades, including four gold and one silver award at the U.S. Muse Creative Awards, leading to collaborations with various private and corporate entities. The campaign stressed that if she participates in any government projects, it is done in full compliance with the law. Su Chiao-hui has previously stated her team will not engage in negative campaigning and has focused on policy proposals, including those related to pet care, family support, and indigenous affairs, aiming to steer the New Taipei election discourse toward substantive policy exchanges.
