Subsidized Flour Suspicions Surround Larache and Ouazzane

Allegations of corruption are swirling around subsidized flour intended for vulnerable populations in Morocco's Larache and Ouazzane provinces. Sources reveal that significant quantities of this flour are being illicitly diverted to bakers in Tangier, a densely populated city.

Instead of reaching the impoverished and needy, the subsidized flour is reportedly being sold to bakers for a profit. This practice allows bakers to use the cheaper, government-subsidized ingredient for their products, while the intended recipients remain unaware and often purchase flour openly in markets.

The scheme involves a complex chain of intermediaries and beneficiaries, primarily traders and bakers, who profit from the subsidized flour. This bypasses the very groups the subsidy was designed to support.

Special committees from the Ministry of Interior are reportedly investigating these operations. The investigations aim to gather precise data on the transactions and identify all beneficiaries of the subsidized flour. Sources suggest these probes could expand to other provinces, as the subsidized flour's price is significantly lower than regular flour, making the 50kg subsidized bag comparable in price to a 25kg regular bag.
