Suchitepéquez earns promotion back to Liga Nacional after eight-year absence

Suchitepéquez has officially returned to Guatemala's Liga Nacional, ending an eight-year exile from the country's top football division. The team, known as "Los Venados de Mazatenango," clinched their promotion by defeating Nueva Santa Rosa with a decisive 3-1 victory in a playoff match held at the Estadio Pensativo in Antigua Guatemala.

The crucial match saw Suchitepéquez take a commanding 2-0 lead before halftime, thanks to goals from Armando Zamorano in the 31st minute and Andrés Lezcano in the 39th minute. The team extended their advantage early in the second half with a third goal from Fabricio González in the 49th minute. Nueva Santa Rosa managed to pull one back in the 75th minute, but it was not enough to prevent Suchitepéquez from securing their place in the top league.

This promotion marks a significant achievement for the club and a triumphant return after a painful eight-year period in the Primera División, which began with their relegation on May 6, 2018. The success is largely attributed to the strategic guidance of Guatemalan coach Érick González. This is his fourth promotion, having previously led Sacachispas, Deportivo Zacapa, and Deportivo Marquense to the top flight, solidifying his reputation as one of Guatemala's most successful coaches in decisive promotion matches.
