Sule demands SIT probe into exam irregularities, all-party meet on reforms

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Supriya Sule has demanded a time-bound Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the forceful handling of student protesters. She also called for an all-party meeting or the formation of a joint parliamentary committee to address necessary reforms in the education system.

Whenever the younger generation of a country is disturbed, it is a matter of concern. We are not doing politics. We want justice for our children and transparent examinations.

Speaking to reporters, Sule expressed serious concern over the growing unrest among students, emphasizing the need for justice for those affected by examination malpractices. She stated that the younger generation's disturbance is a matter of national concern and that transparent examinations are crucial. Sule also noted dissatisfaction with the recently passed anti-paper leak bill, suggesting it does not adequately address the root causes of the problem.

The Baramati MP specifically requested an SIT to conduct a transparent and time-bound inquiry into the alleged examination scams and the injustices faced by students, particularly female students, during protests against the NEET paper leak. She urged the central government to convene an all-party meeting or establish a JPC to deliberate on reforms for the education system and the conduct of examinations like NEET, contrasting it with the perceived integrity of UPSC examinations.

These are India's children. The way students were lathi-charged, and girls were allegedly dragged by their hair, is extremely unfortunate.

Sule alleged that education has become overly commercialized, with coaching institutes growing into major businesses. She argued that simply increasing penalties for paper leak offenders is insufficient without implementing effective safeguards to prevent leaks. Condemning the alleged use of police force, including lathi-charging and mistreatment of female students during protests, she called for the opposition to be consulted and for a thorough parliamentary discussion to find long-term solutions. Her party has pledged legal assistance to students facing action related to the protests.
