Sule orders probe as Nasarawa hospital staff reportedly sell donated items

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct at Umaisha General Hospital, where staff are accused of selling donated medical supplies. The probe was initiated after a state lawmaker reported that items he provided for the hospital's improvement were missing and reportedly sold.

The lawmaker representing the Umaisha/Ugya constituency, Sa’ad Abdullahi, visited the hospital to assess its condition and the use of donated items. He had provided 50 orthopaedic mattresses, 50 ceiling fans, and 40 standing fans. However, during his visit, he discovered that hospital officials could not account for these items, which were allegedly sold.

Governor Sule, speaking during the inauguration of new commissioners, expressed his disappointment. He lamented that while the lawmaker showed concern for his constituents' health, some individuals within the system do not have the state's best interests at heart. "This is a terrible thing that will happen if you have people who do not mean well for Nasarawa State," the governor stated.

A very honourable member from Umaisha/ Ugya recently bought a lot of mattresses and all kinds of fans, standing fans, ceiling fans, and the rest of that because he was concerned about what his local primary healthcare was undergoing. Few days back, he returned there and discovered that the officials of the hospital had actually sold those items.

Sule has requested a comprehensive report on the incident from the relevant commissioner, which is expected by the end of the week. The lawmaker's account, captured in a video, includes conversations with hospital staff and a doctor, where he questioned the disappearance of the donated items and expressed his displeasure.

The governor's swift action underscores the seriousness with which the state government views such allegations of corruption and mismanagement of public resources, especially those intended for healthcare facilities. The investigation aims to uncover the truth and hold any responsible parties accountable.
