'Summer at the Movies' program brings family, films, and fun to Israel's national parks

Israel's national parks and historic sites are transforming into open-air cinemas this August with the "Summer at the Movies" program. Organized by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the initiative offers family-friendly films in unique outdoor settings across the country.

Locations include ancient fortresses, Roman amphitheaters, desert landscapes, and hills overlooking the Kinneret. These midweek events aim to provide a low-cost entertainment option that combines cinematic experiences with cultural and natural exploration. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, games, and sunset views before the films begin.

Sarit Falchi Miara, the northern district director of visitor services, highlighted the appeal of experiencing these sites during the cooler evening hours. "Evening hours give the national parks and nature reserves a different character – calmer, quieter, and more pleasant," she said, inviting the public to enjoy nature in a new way.

Specific screenings include "Night of the Zoopocalypse" at the Yehiam Fortress National Park, "Zootopia 2" at Sussita (Hippos) National Park overlooking the Kinneret, and "Tom and Jerry: The Lost Compass" and "Friends on Full" at the Good Samaritan Museum. "Zootopia 2" and "Ice Age: Collision Course" will also be shown at other historical locations like the Herodium National Park.

Admission requires advance registration via the Nature and Parks Authority website. Matmon members and residents of Yehiam are eligible for discounted tickets. The program encourages families to engage with Israel's heritage in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
