Sun Glare Blamed for Causing Four-Car Pileup in South Korea

A multi-vehicle collision occurred in Suwon, South Korea, on August 3, when a 60-year-old driver, identified as Mr. B, reportedly lost visibility due to the sun's glare. The incident happened around 12:29 PM on a four-lane road in Yeongtong District, where Mr. B's Kia Sorento rear-ended a 1-ton truck in the fourth lane.

The impact of the collision pushed the truck forward, causing it to collide with two other vehicles, a 1-ton van and a Soul, resulting in a four-car pile-up. Following the initial impact, a fire broke out in the engine compartment of the Sorento. Fortunately, firefighters responded promptly and extinguished the blaze within about 10 minutes. The fire reportedly damaged the Sorento's engine and the cargo area of the 1-ton truck.

The driver of the 1-ton truck, a man in his 60s identified as Mr. A, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No other serious injuries were reported among the individuals involved in the accident. Mr. B, the driver of the Sorento, told the police that he was unable to see the vehicles ahead as he exited a tunnel and was blinded by the sunlight.

Authorities have confirmed that Mr. B showed no signs of intoxication from alcohol or drugs. The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, suspecting that Mr. B failed to notice the other vehicles slowing down in traffic ahead of him.
