Sun Moon Lake Certified as 'Tour de France Cycle City,' Asia's First

Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan has achieved a significant international distinction, earning the prestigious "Tour de France Cycle City" certification. This recognition, awarded by the official organizers of the Tour de France (ASO), makes Sun Moon Lake the first and only location in Asia to receive this honor, placing it among globally recognized cycling hubs such as Barcelona and Lausanne.

The L'Étape by Tour de France Sun Moon Lake event, authorized by the world's most historic cycling race, has been held annually in Nantou County since 2024. It has successfully attracted thousands of cyclists from over 40 countries, steadily elevating Sun Moon Lake's profile as a premier international cycling tourism destination and establishing itself as a leading event in the Tour de France series within Asia.

This event's greatest value lies in allowing amateur cyclists to personally participate in the world's most iconic cycling brand event.

Huang Cheng-han, Chairman of L'Étape Sun Moon Lake, highlighted the event's value in allowing amateur cyclists to participate in a world-class cycling brand event. He expressed confidence in Taiwan's potential as a global cycling destination, stating that the Tour de France Cycle City certification is a testament to the collective efforts of all supporters. The upcoming third edition of the event is set for October 3, featuring a 103km certified challenge route and a 28km classic loop around the lake, catering to cyclists of all ages and abilities.
