Sunday weather forecast: Up to 39 degrees in the south, heavy showers in eastern Pyrenees and lower Ebro

Spain is set for another day of high temperatures and stable weather on Sunday, with mostly clear skies anticipated across the majority of the country. However, residents should brace for continued warmth, as nighttime temperatures are expected to remain tropical in the southeast and the Balearic Islands, and torrid in parts of the Mediterranean coast and the Canary Islands.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts low clouds in coastal areas of the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar, the lower and upper Ebro regions, and the far northwest. These may be accompanied by morning fog banks that are expected to dissipate later in the day.

Maximum temperatures will see a decrease in the Atlantic regions, particularly in Cádiz and western Galicia. Conversely, temperatures are predicted to rise in the Cantabrian region, the middle-upper Ebro valley, the Canary Islands, and most Mediterranean areas. Widespread highs are expected to surpass 35 degrees Celsius, with local peaks potentially reaching 40 degrees in Gran Canaria, Alborán, the Ebro valley, and the southeastern peninsula.

While stability will largely prevail, the northeast quadrant of the peninsula may experience cloud development in the afternoon. This could lead to showers and thunderstorms in the eastern Pyrenees and the lower Ebro region, with a possibility of these events being locally intense and accompanied by hail.
