Sunmaya Budha wins Italy ultra trail title, breaks 13-year-old record

Nepali ultra runner Sunmaya Budha has made history by winning the prestigious La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail in Italy. Competing in the 120-kilometer race held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Budha crossed the finish line in 13 hours, 33 minutes, and 1 second. This remarkable performance shattered the previous course record of 13 hours, 40 minutes, and 34 seconds, set by France's Caroline Chaverot in 2013.

During the race, Budha initially ran alongside Australia's Lucy Bartholomew. However, she strategically increased her pace in the latter stages, surged ahead, and secured the first-place victory. Race organizers celebrated Budha on social media, proclaiming her the new queen of the La Sportiva Lavaredo Ultra Trail 120K. They commended her measured and strategic approach, noting her historic achievement in breaking the 13-year-old record.

Hailing from Patarasi Rural Municipality in Jumla district, Budha's triumph is being widely celebrated. It is viewed as a further endorsement of Nepal's burgeoning presence and success in the demanding world of international ultra trail running.
