Super Eagles' Onyedika joins Eintracht Frankfurt, following Okocha's path

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has finalized a highly anticipated transfer to German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, penning a five-year contract that runs until June 2031. This move positions him as the sixth Nigerian player to represent the club, walking a path previously trodden by the iconic captain Austin Okocha.

Onyedika, 25, arrives from Belgian champions Club Brugge, where he established himself as a pivotal player over three seasons. His trophy cabinet already boasts two Belgian league titles, a Belgian Cup, and a Belgian Super Cup, in addition to a Danish Cup won earlier in his career with FC Midtjylland. His transfer signifies a significant step up, bringing him to one of Europe's top five leagues.

With 268 senior appearances across all competitions and 24 UEFA Champions League matches in recent seasons, Onyedika brings considerable experience. He has also earned 26 caps for Nigeria, featuring in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Eintracht Frankfurt's board member for sport, Markus Krösche, praised Onyedika's physicality, strategic understanding, and remarkable consistency, highlighting his potential for growth.

"At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad," Krösche stated. Onyedika is slated to make his unofficial debut in a pre-season friendly against Hull City, with a potential competitive debut in the DFB-Pokal on August 21.
