Subsequently, the Royal House announced that he was also being treated for a blood infection, adding to the gravity of his situation. Leiv Otto Watne, a specialist in geriatrics, noted to NRK that a bacterial blood infection is particularly serious for elderly individuals, and prolonged hospitalization indicates a complex and difficult condition.

In a display of solidarity and support, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon have canceled all public engagements. They, along with other members of the Norwegian Royal Family, have been spending time at the hospital.
