Suri Cruise, the daughter of Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially dropped her father's surname, legally changing her name to Suri Noelle. The 20-year-old theater student, who is studying musical theater at Carnegie Mellon University, presented herself with the new name during her high school graduation ceremony in June 2024.

Public electoral records in Pennsylvania confirm the legal name change. The choice of "Noelle," which is Katie Holmes's middle name, is seen as a tribute to her mother, with whom Suri has maintained a close relationship since her parents' divorce in 2012. This decision appears to reflect Suri's desire to forge her own identity, separate from the significant fame associated with the Cruise surname.

This move aligns with Suri's efforts to establish herself independently. She is set to star in "Midsummer!," a contemporary adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," produced by Carnegie Mellon's School of Drama. The production will also be performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In this role, she has been billed simply as Suri Noelle, reinforcing her intention to build a career based on her own merits.

The legal name change further highlights the well-documented distance between Suri and her father, Tom Cruise. The couple, once one of Hollywood's most high-profile pairs, divorced in 2012.
