Suspect admits killing homeless woman on El Tabo beach

A woman experiencing homelessness was found dead in the early hours on Siete Reales beach in El Tabo, prompting a homicide investigation and the preventive detention of an accused man.

The San Antonio Guarantee Court ordered the measure on Friday in the case, which prosecutors are treating as femicide. A passerby discovered the body and alerted police.

The first forensic work at the scene was carried out by the San Antonio Homicide Brigade of Chile's Investigations Police. Brigade chief Commissioner Pablo Alegría said detectives' external examination found multiple injuries to the victim's head, which were directly linked to the involvement of third parties.

Alegría said investigators then worked at the scene, identified and interviewed eyewitnesses, and searched for additional evidence. The report said the suspect voluntarily acknowledged the crime.
