Suspect arrested in Guayaquil mall shooting

Authorities have apprehended a fifth suspect in connection with a violent armed attack at the Riocentro Sur shopping center in Guayaquil. The suspect, identified as Waldo B. P., 43, was captured in the city's suburbs. This arrest follows an earlier detention on the same day as the incident, which occurred on July 7, 2026. The attack, aimed at a security guard during a value transfer from a bank, resulted in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Two alleged assailants were killed, and one private security guard was injured. Police recovered 25 ballistic casings from the scene. The arrested suspect, who has no prior criminal record, was found with a gold-colored vehicle suspected of being used in the escape.
