Suspect Calls Mother During Police Operation, Arrested for Alleged Driver Assaults in Lima; Weapon, Drugs Found

Police in Lima arrested two men suspected of belonging to a vehicle theft ring on the night of June 8. Esteban Ronny Gago Izquierdo, 22, known as 'Pelao,' and Venezuelan national Freddy Alexander Landaeta Vielma, 44, alias 'Winky,' are under investigation for alleged armed robberies targeting drivers.

The operation yielded a firearm, four rounds of ammunition, two cell phones, and 14 small bags of marijuana. Police stated these items have been added to the investigation to determine the suspects' involvement in other recent crimes. Authorities indicated that forensic analysis will be conducted on the seized items to establish their origin and potential links to reported offenses.

According to police, the suspects allegedly worked together to intercept drivers and steal their vehicles using firearms. Investigations are also underway to determine if they are part of a larger criminal organization. The detainees have been transferred to a police facility pending further proceedings and the determination of their legal status and potential charges.
