Suspect in Fatal Gyeongsan Apartment Arson Case Faces Murder Charge After Victim Dies

Police have begun searching the home and vehicle of a suspect in a fatal arson case at an apartment complex management office in Gyeongsan, North Gyeongsang Province. The suspect, identified as a 71-year-old man surnamed Yoo, is accused of starting the fire on July 23 by spraying flammable materials inside the management office.

The explosion and fire injured eight people, including Yoo, the office manager, staff, and other residents. One resident, identified as 55-year-old Seo, who was being treated for injuries, later died on July 24. Police are considering an autopsy to determine the exact cause of Seo's death. Seo had reportedly visited the management office to check the status of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system when the incident occurred.

Authorities have upgraded the charges against Yoo from assault resulting in injury to assault resulting in death. Police have obtained statements indicating that the CCTV connection cable was disconnected on the day of the incident, and they are comprehensively investigating its potential link to Yoo's actions and the possibility of a premeditated crime.

Yoo is currently in intensive care receiving treatment for severe burns. Police plan to apprehend him for questioning once his medical treatment is complete. The investigation aims to clarify the sequence of events and Yoo's motive for the attack.
