Suspect in U.S. Citizens' Murder Arrested in Mexico City; Total Detainees Reach Eight

Authorities in Mexico City have arrested a man suspected of involvement in the murder of two U.S. citizens, Guillermo Jaffet Hidalgo Ortiz and Zafar Padamsee Mawani. The capture occurred in the Milpa Alta borough as part of an intelligence operation involving federal and local law enforcement agencies.

The suspect, identified as Iván “N”, was apprehended in the Villa Milpa Alta neighborhood. During a search, officers found him allegedly handling drug packages. They seized 40 doses of marijuana, 20 doses of cocaine, cash, a cellphone, a delivery backpack, and a scooter. He was informed of his rights and handed over to the Public Ministry for further investigation.

Iván “N” is believed to be connected to the disappearance and subsequent deaths of Hidalgo Ortiz and Padamsee Mawani, who were last seen on May 20, 2026. Seven other individuals were arrested in June in connection with the case, bringing the total number of alleged accomplices to eight with this latest arrest. Officials stated that this detention marks significant progress in clarifying the double homicide.

Security officials reiterated their commitment to inter-agency coordination to combat impunity and uphold the rule of law. They aim to preserve peace and security for the population, emphasizing that this arrest is a crucial step in bringing those responsible for the killings to justice.
