Suspect Released in Murder Investigation of Former British MP Ann Widdecombe

British police announced Saturday that a 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe has been released and is no longer considered a suspect. The investigation into the death of the former politician is ongoing.

Police were called to Widdecombe's home on Thursday, where she was found deceased with serious injuries. Authorities arrested a 26-year-old man on Friday evening. However, following inquiries, he was released and cleared of suspicion.

He emphasized that identifying those responsible remains the priority, along with a thorough examination of all available evidence.

Ann Widdecombe, 78, served as a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party from 1987 to 2010. During her career, she held several government positions, including during the premiership of John Major. In recent years, she was a spokesperson on immigration and justice issues for Reform UK, a party led by Nigel Farage. Her death has prompted tributes from across the British political spectrum, including from Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
