Suspected drunk driver arrested after multi-vehicle crash kills one, injures two in Medellín

A pre-dawn collision in Medellín's Villa Niza neighborhood shattered the area's tranquility, leaving one man dead and two others injured. Authorities apprehended a 32-year-old man at the scene, who is suspected of causing the tragic incident and subsequently tested positive for alcohol.

The crash occurred early Sunday morning on Carrera 52 with Calle 104. According to Lieutenant Colonel Julián Alonso Gil Baena, operational commander of the Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley, the suspect's vehicle collided with three other vehicles. The chain reaction involved a private car, a taxi, a public service bus, and a motorcycle. The impact tragically killed a 28-year-old man and left two other individuals with injuries requiring hospitalization.

Emergency services, including the National Police and Medellín's Mobility Secretariat, responded swiftly to secure the area and attend to those involved. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver was operating his vehicle while intoxicated. The suspect was taken into custody and placed at the disposal of the National Prosecutor's Office to face charges related to the incident, including vehicular manslaughter.
