Suspected hitman for 'Cobos del Norte' captured in Comas with revolver and extortion note after 19-year-old's murder

Peruvian National Police have apprehended a 21-year-old man identified as Joneider Javier Miranda Herrera, alias "Nero," in the Comas district. Authorities suspect Herrera is a member of the criminal organization "Cobos del Norte" and allege he is responsible for the murder of 19-year-old David Eduardo Ramírez Quiroz on July 5th in the Collique sector.

The arrest occurred on the afternoon of July 6th at the intersection of Chimpu Ocllo and Universitaria avenues as part of the Citizen Security Plan 2026-2028. Agents from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri) and the High-Complexity Crimes Investigation Division led the operation. Police reports indicate that the investigation began after the homicide was reported through open-source information, leading authorities to track the suspect's movements.

During a personal search, officers found a loaded Lawman revolver with four live rounds and one spent casing. Investigators believe this weapon may have been used in the fatal attack on Ramírez Quiroz. Additionally, an extortion note and a blue Redmi cell phone were confiscated. These items will undergo forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into Herrera's alleged involvement in other criminal activities.

Herrera has been transferred to police headquarters for further legal proceedings. Authorities are working to determine if he participated in other criminal acts and to confirm his alleged affiliation with the "Cobos del Norte" organization. The investigation is proceeding under the guidance of the Public Ministry to clarify the homicide and establish criminal responsibility.
