Suspicious incident on Edirnekapı walls linked to 2024 murder investigation

Istanbul police are investigating a suspicious incident on the historic Edirnekapı walls after two teenagers were found exhibiting unusual behavior. A concerned citizen alerted authorities on May 23, 2026, leading to the apprehension of 16-year-old E.D.Y. and 18-year-old A.H.K.

During an examination of their mobile phones, investigators discovered content and messages linked to a murder that took place at the Edirnekapı walls in 2024. This discovery prompted police to inform E.D.Y.'s family.

Following the investigation, E.D.Y. and her mother decided not to press charges against A.H.K. A.H.K. was subsequently brought before a court, which ordered him to be placed under observation at the Bakırköy Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital for three weeks, along with applying judicial control measures.

E.D.Y. was released to her family after her processing at the police station was completed. Reports indicate that A.H.K. had been receiving psychiatric treatment in Istanbul for some time. The incident brings to mind the 2024 murder of 19-year-old İkbal Uzuner by Semih Çelik at the same location, after which Çelik reportedly committed suicide. Police later found the body of Ayşenur Halil, also 19, at Çelik's home.
