Suspicious White Powder Found Near Seoul Protest Site

Seoul police have launched an investigation after a suspicious white powder, suspected to be a drug, was found near a protest site at Olympic Park in Songpa District, Seoul.

The discovery was made on July 17 in a shelter located about 300 meters from the Handball Stadium, where a protest had been ongoing to block the Jamsil polling station. The material, found in a plastic bag, included a white powder and broken pill fragments.

Officers from the Songpa Police Station's drug team conducted preliminary field tests on the white powder, which came back negative for 10 different types of narcotics. However, the substance has been collected and sent to the National Forensic Service for detailed component analysis.

Police noted that the plastic bag containing the white substance differed in shape and size from those typically used in drug-related "throwing" methods, suggesting it might not be a standard drug delivery package. The investigation is ongoing to determine the nature of the powder and how it came to be at the park.
