Swan rescued from angling hook on Rhine River in Mainz

A swan in Mainz, Germany, required a public rescue operation after becoming entangled with an angling hook and line in its beak. Passersby spotted the distressed bird on the Rhine River near the Rheingoldhalle and alerted the fire department. The swan's repeated attempts to free itself from the hook, coupled with the risk of it becoming further entangled and suffering, prompted the rescue.

Due to the swan's distance from shore, a lengthy operation involving a fireboat and divers was initiated. The crew of a nearby DLRG rescue boat offered assistance, which was gratefully accepted. With two boats working together, the team attempted to capture the swan. Numerous people gathered along the Rhine to watch the spectacle as they conducted their Sunday stroll.

The rescue was successful, and the angling hook was swiftly removed from the swan's beak. The fire department reported that the bird was then released back into freedom amidst enthusiastic applause from the assembled crowd.
