The Sweden Democrats (SD) are employing a populist strategy, exemplified by their embrace of the Epa-dunk music scene, to court young voters. The party's recent activities, including a "folk party tour" in Gothenburg coinciding with the Way Out West festival, highlight their effort to connect with a demographic often overlooked by mainstream politics.

SD leader Jimmie Åkesson has aligned the party with "new" Fröken Snusk, a prominent figure in the Epa-dunk scene, and is set to premiere a joint song. This move follows earlier collaborations with dance bands like Åkezzonz, demonstrating a broader effort to integrate popular cultural trends into their political messaging. Åkesson has declared dance bands the "foremost expression of Swedish culture," a sentiment that aligns with the party's broader cultural platform.

The party's strategy targets the Epa-dunk subculture, characterized by its loud music and association with car culture, which SD frames as misunderstood and rebellious. Previously, SD offered free fuel to young Epa drivers in exchange for placing party stickers on their vehicles, and distributed air fresheners featuring Åkesson's face at car meetups.

When Fröken Snusk was canceled from a festival for being too political, SD used the incident to portray themselves as victims of an establishment seeking to exclude them.
