Sweden sword attack suspect held in pre-trial detention

A young man accused of a fatal sword attack at a Swedish high school has been placed in pre-trial detention, prosecutors announced Sunday. The 18-year-old suspect entered Brinell School in Fagersta on Friday armed with a sword, killing one person and injuring three before being apprehended by police.

The suspect, who was wounded by police gunfire at the scene, is accused of murder and attempted murder. A 17-year-old student was killed, and two other teenagers were seriously injured. The court ordered his pre-trial detention on Sunday.

Swedish media reported that the suspect had a previous conviction for assault. His use of a helmet and sword has drawn comparisons to a 2015 attack in Trollhättan, where a 21-year-old killed three people in a racially motivated act. A TikTok account linked to the suspect, which reportedly featured videos referencing school attacks and an image of a sword, is also under investigation. Police searched two addresses connected to the suspect in Fagersta.
