Sweden's government is initiating an investigation to bolster oversight of its unemployment insurance funds, known as 'a-kassorna.' The move comes amid concerns that the state cannot sufficiently guarantee the funds' internal management and control processes. The goal is to ensure these funds serve their intended purpose as a safety net between employment, rather than a continuous source of income.

Furthermore, the inquiry will explore streamlining administrative processes. It will assess whether the administration of benefits for individuals participating in labor market programs should be transferred from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan) to the Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen). This potential shift aims to reduce administrative workload and improve efficiency in managing these benefits.
