Taiwanese Irwin mangoes are making their debut in the French market, marking a significant milestone for the island's agricultural exports. The first shipment has arrived at Rungis, Paris's largest wholesale market, where French traders expressed astonishment at the fruit's exceptional sweetness, measuring an impressive 19.3 Brix.

This entry into the European market follows a press conference held in Fangshan Township, Pingtung County, announcing the first European shipment of Taiwanese mangoes, dragon fruit, and lychees. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to diversify Taiwan's agricultural export risks and build stronger connections with the 27 EU member states.

Minister of Agriculture Chen Chun-chi emphasized the stringent phytosanitary standards required for EU exports, highlighting the ministry's efforts in building a cold chain logistics system and a "national export team" to promote "Taiwanese agricultural products as the only choice." He noted that the successful export of these three summer fruits demonstrates Taiwan's advanced cold chain technology and quarantine capabilities, overcoming geographical limitations and long-distance transportation challenges. This move signifies a transition from "localization" to "international high-endization" for Taiwanese produce.

Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi praised the Pingtung Irwin mangoes as the earliest to market nationwide, known for their juicy and sweet flesh. She stated that overcoming geographical and quarantine hurdles to export to Europe is a significant achievement. The county's agricultural internationalization standard packaging and processing plant, expected to be operational early next year, will further enhance the competitiveness of Pingtung's agricultural products on the global stage. Natural House Group, the export company, confirmed that the initial shipment of 6 metric tons, primarily mangoes, is expected to be available in French markets within three to five days. Rungis market, a hub for Michelin-starred restaurants, hotels, and major retailers, represents a crucial entry point into the European high-end fresh produce sector.
