Swimmer Léon Marchand to compete at European Championships, but 400m IM uncertain due to injury

French swimmer Léon Marchand confirmed his participation in the upcoming European Championships in France, but his presence in the 400m individual medley remains uncertain. The quadruple Olympic champion is still recovering from an adductor injury sustained during the French Championships.

Marchand, who has been training in Vichy with the French team, expressed his concerns about re-aggravating the injury. "I'm a bit afraid of re-injuring my adductor and ending my week," he stated during a press conference. "It's very frustrating because it's a race I really wanted to do well in this year."

He is currently registered for four events: the 200m and 400m individual medleys, the 200m butterfly, and the 400m freestyle, which he considers his new challenge. However, a final MRI scan scheduled for mid-week will be crucial in deciding his final competition program. Marchand admitted to struggling with his recovery and has already decided to withdraw from the 200m breaststroke at the European Championships.
