Swimmer Rejects Love Island, Dictator's Grandson Eyes Scotland Throne, Runner Falls But Advances

Scottish swimmer Katie Shanahan has revealed she turned down an offer to appear on the popular reality television show Love Island. Shanahan, who is focused on her swimming career and recently competed in the Commonwealth Games, stated she was a big fan of the show but prioritized her athletic pursuits.

I'm the biggest Love Island fan ever. I've watched every season. Last year the producers asked me and [English swimmer] Abbie Wood if we would be interested in doing it. I couldn't go on, though, because [I was] focusing on the swimming, but who knows in the future? I was a bit tempted but the swimming had to come first.

In a separate story from the Commonwealth Games, Aziz Abdul, the grandson of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, made controversial remarks. Abdul, who was competing in boxing, stated, "In everything we do, God knows tomorrow. It's God's plan. I might be the new king of Scotland. It's possible." He was later disqualified from his quarterfinal bout for a headbutt. Meanwhile, Australian middle-distance runner Ollie Hoare experienced a scare when he fell during the mile heats, apparently tripped. Despite the fall, his team successfully appealed, allowing him to advance to the final.

There was no-one in front of me and I fell down. Tough to have that happen because obviously I wanted to compete on my own merit, and having something like that happen sucks. I got up and kept competing because that's what we do.
