"The risks cannot be underestimated," Yzermans warned, urging people to respect the rules.

Finding enough lifeguards even for the summer holidays has proven difficult, making it impossible to deploy them during the current heatwave. The mayor also mentioned that swimming is prohibited at Watersnip in Beringen due to poor water quality and that no unwanted swimmers have been observed at the Lommelse Sahara.
