Sydney Marathon medals mistakenly feature German stadium

Runners preparing for next weekend's Sydney Marathon will receive a medal featuring a German football stadium, the Allianz Arena in Munich, instead of the intended Sydney Football Stadium (Allianz Stadium).

A little too much international flavour has found its way onto the back of the finishers medal, with an incorrect depiction of the stadium. We're not going to run from it.

The error was spotted by eagle-eyed internet users who recognized the German landmark among other Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Tower Eye on the medal's reverse side. Organizers acknowledged the "unfortunate error," stating that "a little too much international flavour has found its way onto the back of the finishers medal." However, they confirmed that no replacement medals would be issued.

The front of the medal showcases a blue and white Indigenous design by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian. Killian clarified via Instagram that he was not involved in the design of the medal's reverse side, emphasizing that his artwork and its importance remain unaffected. This year's Sydney Marathon boasts a record 40,000 entrants.
